GESET Volunteering Opportunity in Denver, CO: Respond by October 17th

GIRL’S EXPLORING SCIENCE ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY GESET 2008
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
SAVE THE DATE!!
NOVEMBER 5, 2008

Hello Volunteers!!!

It’s that time of year again when we look for excited and motivated individuals who are interested in keeping our girls interested in math and science.  GESET is a half day event where girls in grades 6th and 7th have the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops that continue to excite them about math, engineering, science, and technology.  This event began 5 years ago and has grown leaps and bounds.  Last year we were able to support 1300 girls and will accomplish that and more again this year.  We can only do this with the support of volunteers.  This year’s event is November 5, 2008 at the Colorado Convention Center.  For those of you that volunteered last year, we know that you saw the benefit of this event and hope that you can come back this year and bring with you anyone who is interested in this event.  Everyone is welcome to volunteer.

We have 50 fun and exciting workshops planned, as we try to improve the program every year.  Currently we are looking for 200+ volunteers in various capacities.  Below is the list of volunteer roles.  As stated above there will be over 1300 girls and their chaperones attending this event.  Not only does this event get girls excited about math and science, but it also provides the chaperones with information that they can use during the rest of the year to keep the excitement going.  It really is quite an event and will continue to grow into one of the premier events in Denver to encourage girls to enter engineering, math, science, and technology related fields.

We need your help to make this a success.  The day of the event is from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  There are opportunities for volunteers that cannot devote the entire time, but most of the need is for the volunteer position of guide and necessitates being at the event the entire time.  This is such an extraordinary event that you will be glad that you were part of this and making a difference in the future of these girls.

If you would like to volunteer please fill out the following below and e-mail to Emily Ferriman, at emily dot ferriman at lmco dot com.

To make this volunteer effort the best it can be, a committee is being developed to make sure all methods of communication and areas are being covered.  If you are interested in being involved in that committee as well as volunteering the day of the event, please contact LaYounder Forbes at layounder dot forbes at lmco dot com.

Imagine:

1300+ girls exploring an idea, an idea that you may have been curious about in your own youth…excitement is generated by the career that you hold…you give a girl support to follow her dreams of being an astronaut, a bioengineer, a forensic scientist…you are a role model, just by being you…
