Utilizing Counselors and Faculty Advisors

One of the requirements for a collegiate section to be in good standing is to have a counselor. This counselor is an annually elected professional and paying SWE member who serves as a collegiate mentor and provides guidance with respect to Society information.

The faculty advisor is not required, but is recommended by SWE. They are a professional or staff member that is chosen by the SWE section or school. Unlike the counselor position, the faculty advisor does not need to be a paid SWE member. They help the collegiate section make sure school rules are being followed, and connect the section to the university.

SWE has a beneficial webinar on Faculty Advisors/Counselors that is free to stream! If you have further questions, feel free to contact Diane Peters (counselor-facadv-coord@swe.org) – the Society Counselor/Faculty Advisor Coordinator.
